A Matter of Time by Martie Hevia

You, who fate’s wind blew my way
You, who travelled lifetimes to me
You came
Knowing you would stay
Knowing who I was
Knowing who I was destined to be
~
But what about me?
~
I waited lifetimes to find you.
Searching for eyes
Searching for mine.
Not knowing
Your name or face
The life you led
Your life ahead
~
But inside my head
I heard the music
~
Your soul was playing
Your eyes were singing
The words kept echoing…
~
“Find me,”
“Look behind me –
You were there.”
“Look before me –
Don’t you recognize yourself?”
“You’re inside me – All around me,”
“I never left your side.
I couldn’t if I tried.
It was just a matter of time.
It was just a matter of time…
A matter of time…”
~
So I wandered through time
As it melted away
Into puddles of emptiness
Into puddles of loneliness
~
Resigning myself
to a turn through life without you.
Forgiving the gods,
for the cruel games they play with us.
Changing my course
I followed my head
To a road that led
Back to me
~
I found myself stopping,
Listening to a music
Playing in the distance
Echoing from my pasts
Whispering, through my destiny
~
I looked up,
I recognized your eyes recognizing me
My breath froze inside my core
When I heard your voice in melody
Reaching out for me
Singing out to me…
~
“Find me,”
“Look behind me –
You were there.”
“Look before me –
Don’t you recognize yourself?”
“You’re inside me – All around me,”
“I never left your side.
I couldn’t if I tried.
It was just a matter of time.
It was just a matter of time…
A matter of time.”
